Shooting Moharam and The Soul of The Shia

Shooting Moharam and The Soul of The Shia

A Blog Speaks Out Of Turn..

Perhaps you think because I am a Shia it has been easy shooting Moharam or the Shia ethos , but you will not believe it in spite of being barefeet in Shia decorum black clothes and I wear only black during Mohram and Saffron and black after Moharam..its been very tough for reasons I dont understand .

I have in spite of my financial shortcomings no sponsors tried to cover Moharam in about 10 years all on my own, Kolkatta Hyderabad Jaorah Hussain Tekri Delhi Mahmoodabad Lucknow the city of my birth including Mumbai the city of my domicile.

I am a Pucca Maharashtrian and a Pucca Mumbaikar..

I shot Shiasm to show the non shia our traditions our ritual the story of our eternal everlasting pain Ghame Hussain.

My primary audience was never the Shia as he knows it all it was the foreigner my friends on social networking sites like Buzznet Facebook and Flickr.

I wanted to make them aware of my roots why I posted pictures of blood and gore that got me a lot of hate comments at Flickr , its another story that I have disabled comments on Flickr Wordpress Blogspot I could not respond to hate comments and whatever you distaste does not change my status quo as a Indian born Shia Muslim.

Because you are bought up differently from me does not mean I should tow your line of thought , your narrow mindedness or the bigotry that your parents bequeathed you.

My parents gave me respect for other religions respect for my country respect for my neighbor and respect for myself.

I have been taken to task by Shias educated ones for shooting pictures of Moharam and abused provoked and many a times in my anguish pain thought I would call it a day and stop shooting pictures but as soon as Moharam comes I am at the doors of Ghame Hussain.

Others have a right to know about us and from grass root level and not the pulpit of the Mullah.

As the non Shia cannot enter certain places of Shia worship I became his eyes to show our angst our pain, we are the only community among the Muslims with a unique demarcation of pain, we mourn for the Martyrdom of Imm Hussain son of Imam Ali and Princess Fatima only daughter of the Holy Messenger of Islam.

The Karbala genocide carnage and there is no denying it is only the Muslim that loves killing Muslims its part of our historical fate and history even those days the killing of Imam Hussain was considered to be a Jewish conspiracy simply to absolve Yazid and Co and shift the blame on an unknown hand by the conspirators.

So we as Shias relive the pain of Imam Hussain and through our blood sweat tears hope to keep another Karbala happening , but it happens everyday a Shia shrine or mosque is blown away by a Muslim jehaddi or Shia hating terrorist..this is the basic fact and I laugh when someone tells me the terrorist has no religion he has more religion than you and me so he kills with impunity and who would not want a nubile virgin the rogue Mulah offers for his sacrifice.

Killings in Ramzan hit us all but than the show has to go on..

So I shoot the soul of my pain and your pain.

And I shoot other religiosity too ,something the Shia bigot hates , too bad my mothers legacy was to love all and everyone tomorrow barefeet dressed in saffron , limping on a badly bruised leg and fasting I shall shoot the Dahi Handi..at Dadar and at Thane and break my fast on the streets will it make me more Hindu or less Muslim God knows better and I shall shoot the Visarjan and I shall shoot my culture a thought that hurt a very educated London returned Shia I met at Moghul Masjid recently..

It hurt me more when he said he was bough up in the lanes of Moghul Masjid I have some of my best friends from this lane who are a pride of my Shia community.

So there is a flip side to in every religiosity…and the greatest religiosity is Humanity respect for Humanity, Religion cannot pre exist without Humanity Humanity is what keeps God Alive too as he is as Human as we are godly in our humility and our love for the humans he created .. different fingers but part of the same Hand of God.

So this is an early morning blog before I hit myself back to sleep with a cudgel

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali

Al? ibn Ab? ??lib (Arabic: ??? ?? ??? ????; Transliteration: ?Al? ibn Ab? ??lib, /?ali? ibn ?æbi? t????lib/13th Rajab, 24 BH–21st Rama??n, 40 AH; approximately October 23, 598 or 600[2] or March 17, 599 – January 27, 661[4]) was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, and ruled over the Islamic Caliphate from 656 to 661. Sunni Muslims consider Ali the fourth and final of the Rashidun (rightly guided Caliphs), while Shi’a Muslims regard Ali as the first Imam and consider him and his descendants the rightful successors to Muhammad, all of which are members of the Ahl al-Bayt, the household of Muhammad. This disagreement split the Muslim community into the Sunni and Shi’a branches.[1]

Most records do indicate that during Muhammad’s time, Ali was the only person born in the Kaaba sanctuary in Mecca, the holiest place in Islam.[5] His father was Abu Talib ibn Abd al-Muttalib and his mother was Fatima bint Asad[1] but he was raised in the household of Muhammad, who himself was raised by Abu Talib, Muhammad’s uncle. When Muhammad reported receiving a divine revelation, Ali was among the first to accept his message, dedicating his life to the cause of Islam.[4][6][7][8]

Ali migrated to Medina shortly after Muhammad. There Muhammad told Ali that he had been ordered by God to give his daughter, Fatimah, to Ali in marriage.[1] For the ten years that Muhammad led the community in Medina, Ali was extremely active in his service, leading parties of warriors on battles, and carrying messages and orders. Ali took part in almost all the battles fought in defense of the early Muslim community.

Ali was appointed caliph by Muhammad’s companions in Medina after the assassination of the third caliph, Uthman ibn Affan.[9] He encountered defiance and civil war (First Fitna) during his reign. In 661, Ali was attacked while praying in the mosque of Kufa, dying a few days later.[10]

In Muslim culture, Ali is respected for his courage, knowledge, belief, honesty, unbending devotion to Islam, deep loyalty to Muhammad, equal treatment of all Muslims and generosity in forgiving his defeated enemies. Ali retains his stature as an authority on Qur’anic exegesis, Islamic jurisprudence and religious thought.[11] Ali holds a high position in almost all Sufi orders which trace their lineage through him to Muhammad. Ali’s influence has thus continued throughout Islamic history.[1]

The incident of Mubahala
Main articles: Mubahala and Hadith of Mubahala
See also: Ahl al-Bayt

According to hadith collections, in 631 an Arab Christian envoy from Najran (currently in northern Yemen and partly in Saudi Arabia) came to Muhammad to argue which of the two parties erred in its doctrine concerning Jesus. After likening Jesus’ miraculous birth to Adam’s creation[34], Muhammad called them to mubahala (cursing), where each party should ask God to destroy the lying party and their families.[35] Muhammad, to prove to them that he is a prophet, brought his daughter Fatimah and his surviving grandchildren, Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali, and Ali ibn Abi Talib and came back to the Christians and said this is my family and covered himself and his family with a cloak. [36] Allameh Tabatabaei explains in Tafsir al-Mizan that the word "Our selves" in this verse [35] refers to Muhammad and Ali. Then he narrates Imam Ali al-Rida, eighth Shia Imam, in discussion with Al-Ma’mun, Abbasid caliph, referred to this verse to prove the superiority of Muhammad’s progeny over the rest of the Muslim community, and considered it the proof for Ali’s right for caliphate due to Allah made Ali like the self of Muhammad.[37]

Ghadir Khumm

As Muhammad was returning from his last pilgrimage in 632, he made statements about Ali that are interpreted very differently by Sunnis and Shias.[1] He halted the caravan at Ghadir Khumm, gathered the returning pilgrims for communal prayer and began to address them[38]:

"O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a message from my Lord and I, in response to Allah’s call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family.[39]."

This quote is confirmed by both Shi’a and Sunni, but they interpret the quote differently.[40]

Some Sunni and Shi’a sources report that then he called Ali ibn Abi Talib to his sides, took his hand and raised it up declaring[41]

"For whoever I am a Mawla of, then Ali is his Mawla[42]."

The Shia’s regard these statements as constituting the investiture of Ali as the successor of Muhammad and as the first Imam; by contrast, the Sunnis take them only as an expression of Muhammad’s closeness to Ali and of his wish that Ali, as his cousin and son-in-law, inherit his family responsibilities upon his death. [43] Many Sufis also interpret the episode as the transfer of Muhammad’s spiritual power and authority to Ali, whom they regard as the wali par excellence.[1][44]

On the basis of this hadith, Ali later insisted on his religious authority superior to that of Abu Bakr and Umar.[45]

Death

On the 19th of Ramadan, while Ali was praying in the mosque of Kufa, a Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam, a Kharijite, assassinated him with a stroke of his poison-coated sword. Ali, wounded by the poisonous sword, lived for two days before dying in Kufa on the 21st of Ramadan in 661.[93]

Ali ordered his sons not to attack the Kharijites, even though a single member of the group of Kharijites killed him. Ali said to his son, Imam Hasan that if he lives on he will forgive Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam and free him, however, in the event of his death, ibn Muljim should get one equal hit and not more regardless if he dies from the hit or not, just as Ali himself received one hit from Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam.[94] Thus,Imam Hasan fulfilled Qisas and gave equal hurt as Ali got to ibn Muljam.[88

The commander of faithful, the father of eloquence, the caretaker of the orphans, the shelter of the needy and the perfect of all humans after Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). Born in the House of Allah, Holy Kaaba, and martryed in the House of Allah, Masjid-e-Kufa. He died on the 21st day of Ramadan 40 A.H. and buried in Najaf al-Ashraf (Iraq).

On the eve of the martyrdom of Imam Ali (as) we take this opportunity to extend our heartiest condolences to Imam of the time, Imam Mahdi (as) and the Muslim world. Oh Allah (SWT) help us live the life of Imam Ali (as)!

Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) had prophesied his departure from this world several days before hand, and on the day of his martyrdom he mysteriously desired his sons Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain (as) to offer their morning prayers in the house and not to accompany him as they usually did to the mosque of Kufa. When Imam Ali (as) was leaving his abode, the household birds began making a great noise and when one of Imam Ali’s servants attempted to quieted them, Imam Ali (as) said, “Leave them alone, for their cries are only lamentations foreboding my death.”

On the 19th of the month of Holy Ramadan (Mah e Ramzan) of the year 40 A.H, Imam Ali (pbuh) came to the mosque in Kufa for his morning prayers. Imam Ali (pbuh) gave the call for prayer (Azaan) and became engaged in leading the congregation. Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam pretending to pray, stood just behind Imam Ali (pbuh), and when Imam Ali (pbuh) was in a state of prostration, Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam dealt a heavy stroke with his sword, inflicting a deep wound on Imam Ali’s (pbuh) head.

This was the time when Imam Ali (as) uttered his famous words : “Fuzto warab-il-Kaaba” - “By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful”.

Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had prophesied the assassination of Imam Ali (pbuh) and his issues. Regarding Imam Ali (pbuh) Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had said, “O Ali! I see before my eyes thy beard dyed with the blood of thy forehead.”

They assassinated Imam Ali (pbuh) at his finest time - the hour of standing before Allah, the Exalted, during a prayer of submission, in the best of days, while fasting during the month of Ramadan (Mah e Ramzan); during the most glorious Islamic duties, while preparing to wage jihad, and in the highest and most pure divine places, the Mosque of Kufa.

May joy be to Amir al-Muminin Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (pbuh) and a blessed afterlife!

The crime of assassinating Imam Ali (pbuh) remains one of the most cruel, brutal and hideous, because it was not committed against one man, but against the whole rational Islamic leadership. By assassinating Imam Ali (pbuh), they actually aimed at assassinating the message, the history, the culture and the nation of Muslims embodied in the person of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (pbuh). In doing so, the Islamic nation lost its guide of progress, and at the most wondrous opportunity in its life after the Holy Prophet (pbuh).

Imam Ali (pbuh) suffered from his wound for three days, and He (pbuh) passed away on 21st of the month of Ramadan (Mah e Ramzan) at an age of 63 years.

During these three days, he (pbuh) entrusted his son, Imam Hasan (pbuh) with the Imamate of guiding the nation ideologically and socially. During those three days, as during all his life, he never ceased remembering Allah, praising Him, and accepting Him and His ordinance.

Likewise, he continued giving pieces of advice and directions leading to good, pointing to the right, defining the way to guidance, explaining the course for deliverance, calling for the observance of Allah’s ordinances, and warning against following one’s ill desires and set-backs from not carrying out the divine message.

The following is one piece of advice offered to his sons, Imam Hasan (pbuh) and Imam Hussain (pbuh), as well as to his people, the nation and coming generations:

“I advise you to fear Allah, and not to run after (the pleasure of) the world, even if it may run after you. Do not be sorry for anything from it which you have been denied. Say the truth and act for (Allah’s) reward. Be an enemy of the oppressor, and be a helper of the oppressed.”

“I advise you, my children, my household and all those who may receive my message, to fear Allah, to arrange your affairs well, to maintain good relations among yourselves, for I have heard your grandfather (pbuh) saying: ‘Good relations are better than prayer and fasting in general.’”

“(Fear) Allah when handling matters of orphans. Do not let them starve, nor allow them to be lost as long as you are there.”

“(Fear) Allah in respect to your neighbors, for they were the trust of your Prophet (pbuh). He went on asking us to take care of them, so much that we thought he would make them heirs (of our heritage).”

“(Fear) Allah in respect to the Holy Quran, (take care that) no one may excel you in following its tenets.”

Fuzto warab-il-Kaaba - By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful”(Fear) Allah in respect to prayer, as it is the pillar of your religion.”

“(Fear) Allah in respect to your Lord’s House (Kaaba), do not forsake it so long as you live, because if you do you will not be looked upon with respect.”

“(Fear) Allah in respect to Jihad, fight with your wealth, your lives and your tongues, in the way of Allah.”

“Have mutual liaison and give-and-take. Beware of turning your faces from, and of renouncing, one another. Do not abandon bidding good and forbidding evil, lest vicious people may overrule you, and then in such a case, your invocations will not be responded to (by Allah).”

Then he said: “O, Banu Abdul Muttalib, certainly I do not want you to wade through the blood of the Muslims, crying: Amir al-Muminin was murdered. You certainly kill for me no one but my killer.”

“Wait till I die by this stroke of him (Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam), then strike a single stroke against him, and do not disfigure his body, for I had heard the Holy Prophet (pbuh) saying: ‘Avoid mayhem even with a rabid dog.’”

Such was the heroic end of this great man! The loss to the Mission and the nation was the gravest after the loss of the Holy Prophet (pbuh).

By the death of Imam Ali (pbuh) the nation lost:

A heroism that had become the song of the time;

A courageous history that has never dreamt of its like;

A wisdom no one can fathom, save Allah;

A purity, the like of which was only in the prophets;

An abstinence from the pleasures of life that could be attained only by the nearest to Allah;

An eloquence such as to be the echo of Book; and

A jurisprudence, and a thorough knowledge of the laws of religion, that made him the ‘gateway of the city’ of the Prophet’s knowledge, and the authority to whom the Islamic nation referred in all its affairs.

Peace be upon Amir al-Muminin the day he was born, the day he was martyred on his altar, and the day he shall be raised alive.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
