These are pictures of the Ashra celebrations, at the Shia Girls college after Maulana Agh Roohis majlis.

Asalamo Alaykum Brother Muhammad,

Thank you for asking this excellent question brother.

Let me explain very simply and clearly. Ya Ali Madad means “O’ Ali Help me”

This reffers to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib the General of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his cousin, his son in law, and his successor.

Now when Shia Muslims say “Ya Ali Madad” they are following the Sunaat (Traditions) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Because in the Battle of Uhad when the Prophet was surrounded by the enemy he cried, “Ya Ali Adriqni” which is Arabic for “O’ Ali Help Me”, in urdu it translates into “Ya Ali Madad”.

See the Holy Prophet could have cried, “Ya Allah Madad” but instead he said “Ya Ali Madad” on several occasions other than the Battle of Ohaad. Also Imam Hussain (A.S) cried “Ya Ali Adriqni” “O’ Ali Help Me” when he went to pickup the body of his 20 year old son Hazrat Ali Akbar.

So when you hear Shia Muslims say “Ya Ali Madad” it is because it Sunaat of Prophet Muhammad, that when the Prophet was in trouble or under Great Calamity he cried, “Ya Ali Adriqni”/”Ya Ali Madad”

Wikipedia thus describes Maulana Agha Roohi
Maulana Syed Ali Nasir Saeed Abaqati a.k.a. Agha Roohi is a Shia scholar from Lucknow, India and hails from the eminent family of Ayatullah Hamid Hussain.

He is the patron of the tomb Shaheed-e-Saalis in Agra.

He is the son of Maulana Syed Mohammad Saeed (Saeed-ul-Millat) and grandson of Maulana Syed Nasir Hussain (Nasir-ul-Millat).

His family tree reads Syed Ali Nasir Saeed ibn Syed Mohammad Saeed ibn Syed Nasir Hussain ibn Syed Hamid Hussain ibn Syed Mohammad Quli ibn Syed Mohammad Hussain.

I was in Lucknow to participate shoot the Ashura 2007.
Across from my father in law Abbas Qasims house is the lions den the Shia Girls College Nakhas Victoris Street no3, where the lionhearted Maulana Agha Roohi recites the Ashra , the ten days majlis to commemorate the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
His majlis are punches unconstrained, as you dont mess with the thoughts of this erstwhile Maulana fighter of Shia rights, he has a tremendously large populace that will follow him to eternity.
One of his followers , is my mother in law Wassim Qazilbas, you dare not bad mouth this Maulana in her presence , or you have had it for good, this Shia lady is the bravest woman, unafraid, has stood with her rolling pin in hand against hodes of Sunni rioters, yes my mother in law is a very special lady , they dont make ladies like this anymore, nor do they make lion roaring Maulanas like Agha Roohi.
I met the Maulana on the passing away of a noble Shia soul Mansoor Bhai of Afzal Mahal.He was reciting the Majlis of his premature passing away, Maulana Saab and Mansoor Bhai were dear friends.This was about three years back during Athvi.
I used to shoot pictures from atop the cybercafe of the matams that took place after the Maulanas Majlis.
On the 9th Moharam, Maulana Agha Roohi wielded the dagger to cut his forehead warning people before hand on the microphone not to snatch it from his hands or suffer consequences.
This series is of one of his Majlis pictures I shot in the Shia college compound, the road side majlis pictures I lost all due to a defect in my 20 mm Nikon wide angle lens.
Maulana Agha Roohi is an exponent of Tabarah, I am a Tabarahi too ,we openly curse the enemies of Hussainiyat , the killers of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
Maualana Abbas Irshad who once accidentaly or lapse of mind called me a Maulaiee is the erstwhile Maulanas nephew.I dont know whether someone calling me a Mauliaee really makes a difference , but if Maulah knows I am a Maulaiee is enough for me.
I have completely distanced myself from Lucknow the city of my birth, this was my last Ashura, I hope the Almighty gives me death instead of making me revisit the city of misguided Shia youth who consider themselves the custodians of our Faith, it is these Shia hardliners that have caused the maximum pain to our peace living Azadari believing community of Shias.
I do not believe the Imams ever , terrified people with their high handedness, it was their humility, their tolerance that the Shia youth fail to emulate.
I stand by what I write, I was unnecessarily targetted without giving me a chance to explain the hacking of my sites, by people unknown to me.I write on all religions, I am a believer of composite culture and Interfaith, but I am a born Shia.. that should not be held against me.
I am a modern Indian Muslim..Hindutva is my cultural inheritance , that I respect.. Live and let others live too..
This is Hindustan that Hazrat Imam Hussain loved too…it is his love that God populated his followers here as Indian Shias , to shed tears for him..yes this is our Maksade Hussain.
