This was in Delhi, Chehlum procession, I was atop a crane truck, shooting pictures, the crowds watching me, I asked to shoot me with my Nikon F100 while I shot him with my Nikon D70..this was very close to the Jamma Masjid, there are a lot of pictures here my 21 km walk upto Shahe Marda Shia cemetery, the heavy rains made me abort this event, I missed out on the burial of the Safed Tazia..
I left from here quite disappointed, without realising that the cut on my hand would put me back , away from my work and my shop for more than a month.
I know one thing that I may not shoot Moharam in Delhi , not because of the cut, its just that Delhiis far too tame as compared to the other cities I have visited.
Now on introspection I think Moharam in Mumbai both Ashura and Chehlum are out of the world.
The kind of Matam that takes place at Rehmatabad , the Shia cemetery in Mumbai is not for the weak hearted, Hyderabad is also intense, the Badi Bargah is a stream of running blood…some of the older conservative people in Hyderabad , dont take kindly to photographers or photography during Moharam, perhaps people like me who look wild .. not normal. You know what I mean.
Overall Hyderabad Moharam I will never forget for some memorable moments and Sajjad Bhai.. who went out of his way to help me shoot most of the important segments,
