I shoot pain as I see pain the view finder of my karmic consciousness.

Every year in Moharam, the Shia festival that commemorates the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Holy Prophet of Islam, here in Mumbai and all over the world, I record the pain of my race ,this pain is the core of an intrinsic Shia thought called Ghame Hussain..

Shiasm  for me and others like me is not a sect or a domain of religiosity, its a 1400 year protest against Yazidiyat,  loosely translated Yazidiyat is a form of Terrorism, where at Karbala Imam Hussain and his family went through harrowing times , genocide , all because the Imam did now want to give allegiance to Yazid the Caliph of the Umayad Dynasty.. a despot , and a father of modern terrorism.

As a photo blogger I shot Moharam in most of the main cities of India Mumbai, Kolkatta, Lucknow ,Hyderabad, and Mehmoodabad..I do not glorify blood shedding but here it is done as a protest to wake the community from a eunuch silence , a silence that prevailed when Imam Hussain was being butchered and nobody raised his voice against this misdeed..Much has been done to erase this black chapter from Islamic history, and the puritans greatest enemy is not the American or the Jew it is the Shia..This is my personal view as a self made man of  street survival and  man comfortable with all religiosities save radicalism or fundamentalism..

I shoot all religiosity ,80% of my stuff  is on Hinduism at my Flickr photo stream is in a collection called Hope and Hindutva.

1) The Prophet (s) said, “On the Day of Judgment, a caller will call out, ‘lower your gaze until Fatima has passed.”

Ali and Abbas were sitting inside the house of Fatimah, Abu Bakr told Umar: “Go and bring them; if they refuse, kill them.” Umar brought fire to burn the house. Fatimah came near the door and said: “O son of Khattab, have you come to burn our house on me and my children?” Umar replied:”Yes I will, by Allah, until they come out and pay allegiance to the Prophet’s Caliph.”

Everybody came out of the house except Imam Ali (AS), who said: “I have sworn to remain home until I collect the Quran.” Umar refused but Lady Fatimah’s remonstration caused him to return. He instigated Abu Bakr to pursue the matter, and he send Qunfuz (his slave) several times but received a negative reply each time. Ultimately, Umar went with a group of people to the Fatimah’s house. When she heard their voice, she cried loudly; “O father, O Messenger of Allah, how are Umar Ibn al-Khattab and Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Quhafah treating us after you and how do they meet us.”

The Sunni scholars, Ahmad Ibn Abdul Aziz al-Jawhari in his book ‘Saqifah’, Abu Waleed Muhibbuddin Mohammad al-Shahnah al-Hanafi in his book ‘Rawdhat al-Manadhir Fi Akhbaar al-Awayil wal-Aawaakhir’, Ibn Abil Hadid in his book ‘Sharh al-Nahj’, and others have reported the events to the same effect.

Also refer to the esteemed Sunni historian Abul Hasan, Ali Ibn al-Husain al-Mas’udi who in his book ‘Isbaat al-Wasiyyah’ describes the events in detail and reports that: “They surrounded Ali (AS) and burned the door of his house and pulled him out against his will and pressed the leader of all women (Hadhrat Fatimah (AS)) between the door and the wall killing Mohsin (the male-child she was carrying in her womb for six months).”

Salahuddin Khalil al-Safadi another Sunni scholar in his book ‘Waafi al-Wafiyyaat’ under the letter ‘A’ while recording the view of Ibrahim Ibn Sayyar Ibn Hani al-Basri, well-known as Nidhaam quotes him to have said: “On the day of ‘Bay’aat’ (paying allegiance), Umar hit Fatimah (AS) on the stomach such that child in her womb died.”

Why do you think an 18 year old young lady was forced to walk with the help of a walking-stick? Unbelieveable acts of cruelty and oppression had led Hadhrat Fatimah al-Zahra (AS) to lament: “Such calamities have visited me that had they descended on the day it would have darkened it.” She fell into bed till she was martyred as a results of these calamities and injuries while she was just eighteen years old!

During her last days, when Abu Bakr and Umar sought the mediation of Imam Ali (AS) to visit the ailing Hadhrat Fatimah (AS), as quoted by Ibn Qutaybah, she tured her face to the wall when they greeted her and in response to their plea for appeasement reminded them of the prophetic declaration that one who displeases Fatimah (AS) has displeased the Prophet and finally said: “I take Allah and the angels to be my witness that you have not pleased me; on the other hand, you have angered me. When I shall meet the Prophet (PBUH&HF) I will complain about you two.” (al-Imamah wa al-Siyasah, by Ibn Qutaybah, v1, p14).

For the same reason, she willed that those who have hurt her should not participate in her funeral rites and that she be buried at night. al- Bukhari in his Sahih attests to this fact that Imam Ali (AS) complied with the will of Lady Fatimah (AS). al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Aisha that:

… Fatimah became angry with Abu Bakr and kept away from him, and did not talk to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death of the Prophet. When she died, her husband ‘Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and he said the funeral prayer by himself.

The Famous Dariyawali Masjid or Mosque of Djinns

The Masjid is brilliantly lit , jam packed, women are here in great numbers, Maulana Kalbe Jawad s Majlis have a great effect on the Shia women folk, they come from far and wide , to hear him out.
Maulana Effendi is Shia Koranic scholar , he interprets the Koran , every point he makes to the public is on the strength of the Verses of the Koran.He is a an inrepid old man, but does not tire at all, he is absolutely unornamental in the metaphor of words he chooses, no melodrama , just pure plain facts , he has his followers too.
In between the Majlis are the reciters of the Noha who await their turn, reciting Marsiya..the Dariyawala Alam is Miracle Alam, even the Hindus seek blessings of Hazrat Abbas from a distance.
But here I will digress , the Hindus of Hyderabad , God bless them in abundance , may their tribes increase, they have a lot of faith, in Bibi Ka Alam, visit Moulah Ali Ka Pahad, I have seen them , at Hazrat Abbas Dargah , going in a trance , yes to be a believer of Ahle Bait you dont need to change your religion only your attitude..Shiasm is a spirituality with a whiff of Karbala a single shrieking chant that rises to a cresecendo ..Ya Hussain Ya Hussain..
I have a view the Shia hardliners can bite the dust for all I care , but Hussain is a property that belongs not only to the Shias but to the entire universe of human loving people.. Hussainiyat is not a dogma, Hussainiyat is Triumph of Truth over Atrocity , Hussainiyat is what keeps the apsidistra flying from homes that respect human values.
Hussainiyat is Tolerance..
Yazidiyat is the corruption of the human soul, emulating to play God, Yazidiyat is Satanic Verses..Yazidiyat is Misplaced Martyrdom, Jehadi Terrorism .Yazidiyat is falsifying Truth, Yazidiyat is home grown in evil hearts..Yazidiyat is the call of the Muezzin to kill, those that follow religions other than Islam..Yazidiyat is not necessarily Islamic it can be American, Israeli..any caste color or creed chameleon like , even certain heads of clergy can be its initiates.

Yes for a Shia Child everything is important , but everything is complete without the benovelence of Ahle Bait.The Shia child carried n his mothers waist without any training imitates his mother beating his chest, he is a fast learner, no indoctrination needed, this is more effective than just parroting the Holy Koran, he sees his mother weep, he knows Pain, he felt the pain during birth, he relives this pain , the pain of being a follower of Imam Hussain.
I am mesmrised by the Shia child, this is not a brain washing, this is not a enforced toilet traning this comes with the territory of being born a Shia.
Yes the Shia child is special.
I learnt this during Athvi in Lucknow , watching little kids with Alams marching to Kazmain with a cofidencence unbecoming of a child.
A Shia child is an Adult..
I saw the Shia children at Mr Shabeeb Rizvis house and till date I can never forget the glint of redeeming hope in the eyes of Little Baqar son of sports journalist Ehtesham Hassans son..I was drowning he saved me..with all your hate , venom , you cannot corrupt our Shia kids , they are the Faith of our sect..It takes a Shia mother to produce a Shia kid, no mean task..
I take my hats off to Shia mothers..
This little kid in the picture had come with his mother to the Matam at my mother in laws House Imambada , he saw me , he came to see me , yes we were both kindered soul, I was taking the strength of my Shiasm from him…
Once go to Hyderabad on Ashura Day at the Bargah you will know what it means keeping our Faith alive..yes we inflict wounds on our bodies, we mark ourselves, we do everything you despise us for, but honestly we dont teach our kids to cut off heads of Kafirs, we dont teach our kids to place bombs in trains, we dont teach our kids to lob grenades while heads are bowed in prayers to Allah.We teach our kids nothing , they bring their values intact, we are a race that was created to mourn for Imam Hussain, we Indian Shias are a race born as a gift of God to appease the love of Imaam Hussain for a land called Hindustan he, said I know in Hindustan there are no Mussalmans but yes there are Insans..meaning human beings.
I am not a Mullah, I do not have the arsenal of Koranic verses , but yes I have one thing that is Truth .. I was born a Shia I shall die a Shia..I have pledged my body to a Medical research.. somebody might see with my eyes, or my organs…or what is left of them.
I do not seek Paradise..you can add this to my heresy..of being a Rafidi Shia…

 THE BEST FORM OF SERVICE TO THE DEVOTION OF GOD IS NOT TO MAKE A SHOW OF IT.
SAYINGS OF IMAM ALI .

Yes we show our devotion bombing holy places , decapitating heads , after all , decapitation was the in thing in early Islam.Whether Imam Hussain or Hazrat Ali .
Imagine that the clergy of that time was mum, eternal silence , this was the Caliphate, politicising ,corrupting ,the soul of Islam .
You could take your sword in the Masjid cut of the mans head bowed in prayers to Allah.
This was for the greater good of Islam.
Today it is just the same , lob bombs grenades in the House Of God..the clergy has lost its Voice.The rampant killings , instant Paradise.
Today even God is not safe from his own followers .
We who have euologised Terrorist , glorified Terrorism, as an Islamic way of ridding the non believer or Kafir.
Internationally the heads of Islam keep mum, no collective reprimand , mere lip locked silence.
Nobody has the balls to get up and say , guys enough is enough what you are doing is not Islam.But we have glorified criminals as Martyrs.In Karbala criminals Martyred the seed of the Holy Prophet.
Yes we Glorify Hussainiyat , we glorify his Martyrdom..we with our annual chant of Ya Hussain , warn the next Yazid, we wont take another Karbala lying down.
So we keep Azadari E Hussain alive.

Ashura in Lucknow is moments spirtually sanctified.
Shias and Sunnis dont have many problems as they believe in the Martyrdom of Hazarat Imam Hussain.It is the new faction in Islam, the puritanical one that cannot tolerate ritualism that have existed since time immemorial.
This faction hates Alams, Azadari, Matam, Blood shedding .
This faction hates all Dargahs..including Ajmer Sharif.
I still believe that places like ajmer Sharif are Holy because they bind Humanity irrespective of caste color or creed.
I distance myself completely from an Islam that does not believe in Tolerance , this factionalised Islam that propagates Hate as its evangelist Message.
Factionalised Islam can kill humans , but not the spirit of Islam, our spirit of Islam is our firm beleve in Allah and the Ahle Bait.
Yes we have the same universal Allah, His Holy Prophet his Progeny .. we have chosen a Path, we shall follow it we call it Hussainiyat.
Yazidiyat has no Path.You have to kill bodies, to make a Path.Where it leads I do not wish to know.

Zuljana  the replica of the Steed of Hazrat Imam Hussain is an integral part of any Shia Juloos , along with Alams , the Zari, the Amary it is the Zuljana  that plays a pivotal role, women adore him, children love him, every city has its own individualistic peculiarity of the Zuljana , you might think I am making this up, but an ordinary horse playing the role of Zuljana actually starts reliving  the role of Hazrat Imam Hussains valiant steed , that while the Imam was being showered with arrows  by the Yazidi forces, with his head in Sajdah, it was Zuljana that stood like a Wall trying to protect his Master.I have seen the Zuljana weep in some Juloos, I have seen new born babies in Sealdah Kolkatta placed at the feet of the Zuljana during Ashura, but he tramples them not, milk fed to him, that falls on the ground is collected by Hindu mothers in vials , that they give their children in severe sickness, the milk does not curdle I am told .
The handler of the Zuljana , every body cannot just become its handler, I have seeen at the Almeida Park Juloos the Zuljana turned fiery , ill tempered but calmed down the moment he saw Mamdu the old handler in the crowd.Mamdu was not given the job , internal politics are rife in Shia religious events too.
Well that is not the subject of this post, politics is everywhere from the cradle to the grave.
I had by accident gone on a post of a Muslim gent who wants all Muslim from various countries to form a Muslim Nation , something like the European Nation.
I commented on his post also giving him the choice to delete my comment.
This thought that he has is commendable for its positivity, but it is so far fetched, if such a thing could happen it should have happened long time back.
We inherited a great religion from the Arabs , unfortunately we inherited their narrow mindedness , their myopic vision, their inter tribal rivalry, their pettiness, their hate , no ordinary Hate , yes we inherited Hussainiyat we inherited Yazidiyat too.
We inherited their Bigotry, their sheer disregard for Womanhood, today the Arab world is splintered, divisions of mistrust all holding on to their kingdoms , their petro dollars , they treat the Muslims of the Far East as second class citizens.Their Caliphate was a total sham, politically powered to oppress under the Mask of Islam.The Mughal rulers too followed the same rules set by these so called tribal warlords.
Terrorism ,was tolerated for the greater good of Islam, the Jihadis were nurtured , a new order was born that earlier never existed the Talibanisation of  Central Asian Islam..
I dont think anyone from the Holy Cities of Mecca or Medina ever condemned these cowardly attacks, instead it is alleged gave them financial and moral support, today the target is the people that funded them..the Americans , the so called Heretics pork eaters, are the bulwark of their survival..This is what I see ..the world is a Chess Board, the Whites are the ones calling the shots from the White House , the Blacks well they are checkmated every time..
Maybe I am not a political student , talking from my hat.. but can Islam unify.Never.
Simple the Mullahs will starve , the weapon manufacturers will starve, the suicide bombers well they will be million years away from their Instant Jannat.
Muslim Nation makes me really rethink the options.
I told him in my comment  the Shias wont forget Karbala , the Sunnis want to erase Karbala , the Kurds want all the petrol for themselves , the Wahhabis want this entire planet populated with chequered scarves.
I hate sectarian violence but it does not stop me from saying it again and again Muslims love killing Muslims.There are lot of holes in the Umbrella under which Shia Sunnis and other sects that call themselves collectively Muslims.The Umbrella of Islam  has too many patches Hate percolates like drops of Rain.Though we believe in the same Allah, the same Holy Prophet the same Holy Koran, the same Allah ho Akbar the same La Illaha Illal Lah.
Fatwas, sheer misinterpretation of Holy Scriptues to create sensationalism, two penny Mullahs seeking 3 second s fame of TV channel arc lights.
What happened how come no Fawa was given for Yazid  Shimr.
Why the Silence ?
Muslim Nation.A dream in human blood shed of sectarian hate ..Kill Kill ..
I too want to see Peace but we are caught up in misguided defiance , misplaced martyrdom…
I did not know I would write all this on a post of Zuljana.
But yes he  Zuljana, was more faithful than the Namazis, who were shooting arrows of Hate on the body of the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet.

I came across an article while surfing the net I have added the title to my body post.
The writer is Makrand Paranjape.I hope he will forgive me , but his title is more apt, I was going to put a questioning title “What kind of Islam?”

TWO KINDS OF ISLAM

I remember a few years back , I used to be literally bullied by a neo Tabbliqi on 33 rd road Linking Road, the Musafirkhana of Bandra West .He would always taunt me , regarding my saffron clothes, the usual spiel that these guys love giving,these holier than thou Islamists , these guardian angels of a New Order of Islam..The Pristine Islam as propogated by the Wahabbi school of Thought.I have nothing against it , I stick to what I got on my parental plate I was born into Shiasm.
One day this guy got nasty , he had seen me going to Patwardhan Park in my shorts ,my wife in her hijab, he met the following day , his usual banter, than he said Yaar Firozebhai , you should dress properly when you walk with your wife , I lost my cool, told him in front of everyone if my wife does not have a problem why should you, was I walking with your wife.He shut up quick and fast.
What I want to tell you by this stray incident , the new approach is more on how you look Islamic externally.Internally you can be the most corrupt Muslim does not matter, as a show window you should refect yourself in the best possible way even in a hypocritical borrowed light.I remmer at the Bandra Shia mosque during a happy feat I was posed a similar question by an elderly Khoja gentleman.. I moved away from Mosques completely.
The only exception being the Moghul Masjid at Bhendi Bazar.
Anyway , my personal experience are my own, I believe do what you feel you have to do.
Stop being a moral Muslim culture police. unnecessarily be a little tolerant not hot headed without proper reasoning,we have them in all sects , some call them head bashers or hardliners.
I also feel that those who look at Muslims with skulls and goatees with mistrust should stop it, one can have all the necessary external perquisite of an Islamic person still be connected to the mainstream through our nationality as Indians.
A man who is a terrorist , terrorist are not as dumb as we are made to believe.A terrorist who places bombs in a train would definitely not wear Miya clothes but clothes of a normal train travelling executive , that is why the sleepers get caught the Brains are still million light years away.
I say all this as I shot the Mumbai serial train blasts, I saw the mayhem , the chaos..today irrespective of our caste or creed we are all targets to Terrorism, I call it Yazidiyat,, that has always been there unpunished since Time immemorial, all the senior clergy , the heads of state kept their mouths shut.
We dont have to read History to know all this, the morning papers headlines, breaking news is more than enough..Misguided Martyrdom..Hate for Humanity .. that is all that it boils down too.
There are two types of Islam, one that wants Peace Brotherhood, the other Islam wants the return of the Ummayads, there is the third Islam, that just watches all this bloodshed , the killings of one Muslim sect by another sect , keeps silently quiet.. this is the Islam that hurts all of us , call us moderates liberal , whatever , but we are Muslims by Birth.. by our Kalma , by the sanctity of our Mothers womb.
