Pakistani Militants Snub Surrender Call

By DENIS D. GRAY
The Associated Press
Friday, July 6, 2007; 3:27 AM

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The head of a radical mosque besieged by government forces in the heart of Pakistan’s capital rejected calls for an unconditional surrender Friday, saying he and his die-hard followers were ready for martyrdom.

As the siege of the Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, entered the third day, troops rocked the complex with gunfire and explosions but appeared to be holding back from a potentially bloody final assault.

We will not surrender. We will be martyred, but we will not surrender,” Abdul Rashid Ghazi, the mosque’s senior cleric, told GEO television, a private channel. “We are more determined now.”

The government was keen to avoid a bloodbath that would further damage President Gen. Pervez Musharraf’s embattled administration and said troops would not storm the mosque while women and children were inside.

Two dozen parents and other family members waited anxiously behind security barriers some 200 yards from the mosque, with about 10 allowed to approach the shrine’s entrance.

During lulls in the fighting, some parents have approached the mosque, handed notes to those inside with the names of their children, who have then emerged. Most are young students at the mosque’s seminaries for males and females.

Gunfire rang out around the mosque before dawn and again later Friday morning. Armed troops and barbed wire coils on the streets near the mosque prevented journalists from going near the scene.

There were no immediate reports of injuries and it was not possible to determine who initiated the latest bout of shooting.

Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said soldiers were trying to blast holes in the walls of the fortress-like compound of the mosque and an adjoining seminary for girls, seeking to wear down the defenders’ resolve and force a surrender without a battle.

In the interview, Ghazi denied government allegations that he was holding some of the young students as hostages and also rejected that he was only acting as a front man for hard-core militants within the mosque.

The Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haq said in an interview Friday with GEO television that “militants” were in command and control and that Ghazi was just being used for “media management.”

He said indirect negotiations were proceeding, with clerics trying to persuade Ghazi to give up.

Juloos at Imambada Meeran Saab Finale 2

ali asghars cradle

AliAsghars Cradle

With this lot I complete the entire Moharam segment of Lucknow.
All these Cds were lying with me for several months, but they saw daylight anyway.
The Juloos at Imambada Meeran Saab, was to pay tribute to the Fourth Imam Zainul Abedin and the rest of the kith and kin of Imam Hussain. Here on display were the replicas 18 in number, with the Amary. After the juloos was the usual scourgings that I missed as my memory cards were full.I did not carry my Nikon F100 or I would have shot negatives too.
Most of the videographers who shoot all this sell the clips , which will be added to the VCDS of Nohakars of Matam and Marsiyas.
As this is a Shia affair , hardly anyone else shoots it, at the Shia Mosques and Imambadas , non Muslims are strictly not allowed, so all these years of shooting Moharam, mostly in metropolitan cities Moharam is shot on the streets, during Ashura and Chehlum.
The Indian newspapers , give limited space or maybe just a stray mention about Moharam. The Urdu newspapers avoid Moharam, as most of the Urdu newspapers are mouthpiece of Wahabbism thought that considers Moharam a Heresy and the Shias as Heretics.
I have never given my Moharam or my photo journalism pictures to the press.
Very early years I did give some to Hindustan Times Lucknow edition, but the curiosity at that time was my Bollywood status as a designer of actor Govinda .I am now a tailorman.Govindia wears whites he has become a politician and Neta No1 of the masses.
So in retrospection I think the Imambada Meeran Saab juloos at Muftiganj,, the Hazrat Qasim Mehndi, the Bada Imambada Ag Ka Matam, the Darya Wala Alam of Hazrat Abbas Juloos, 9 th Moharam Juloos from Nakhas , the 10th Moharam Ashura Juloos from Nakhas ,the 11th Moharam Hazrat Abbad Dargah juloos is what comprises 11 days of Mahram in Lucknow , commemorating the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain erstwhile grandson of the Holy Prophet of Islam..

zuljana

Zuljana

Any Moharam Juloos in India is incomplete without the participation of a horse that symbolises Zuljana the steed of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
His faithfulness is the tragic story of Karbala. The valiant steed protecting his Master till the very end,his symbolism is not the fleshiness of a horse, but his qualities that all be it were lacking in Islamists that made up Yazids superior army.
This was the Might of the Ummayad Caliphate brutalising all the five pillars of Islam.
So whatever accusations are hurled at Shias for being Imam Hussains killers, or being Jews , whatever crap, the Sunni fact remains Yazid who pulled the trigger was the killer of Imam Hussain.
He could not have been a Shia..as the word Shia denoted anyone who was a follower of Ali.
Many a times any group with a revolutionary agenda to misguide Islam, would be given a derogatory title, the most common hackneyed one was Shia.A criminal was simply called Shia.
For 100 years from Sunni minarets of the Caliphates Alis name was taken abusively, his followers persecuted, so the Shia took up Taqqaiya , he hid his religion to save the lives of his loved ones..Taqqaiya was justifiable in such circumstances, I am not a historian nor an Islamic scholar, but this is what I have gathered from the discourses of other scholars in the Majlis.
So guys at Allah Ho Akbar .net get overexcited, almost jumping out of their shrunk pajamas in dengrating this vibrant Prophet s progeny following sect.Believers of Ahle Bait and above all Allah the Omnipresent and Omniscient.
Well cyberspace is the new Karbala and Hussainiyat lives in a click of a Mouse , at the same time Yazid the cyborgean monster is reborn thanks to websites of Shia hatredness ,all I can say…Truth triumphs in the end.
Ya Hussain is a cry of Truth triumphing over falsified hopes of kurtas of overstretched imagination warped in a weft of self hate..
I take a bow.

Ashura

ashura

Ashura is 10 th of Moharam , the Shias celebrate the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, there is a seeeping heaviness in the air, a scorching dryness, a surrendering moment of grief.
Seas of black humanity, cacading with families carrying the Tazias, children leading from the front trudging, reciting the matam moving towards Karbala Talkatora.
Today after 9 days the water has run dry, the sabils are ghostly , no children serving water, just a languishing lassitude of a momotonous memory.
Moharam in Lucknow is ultimate , two months eight days you live breathe Moharam.
Yes you relive Moharam.Every house has a majlis, going on, the bylanes of Pata Nala, drag your feet towards Chup Tazia house, Maulana Ashfaque, talking about Moharam in sepia toned eras of Mir Anis, in times of Mir Dabir, or Mir Taki Mir.
Patronised fiercely by the Shia charcater of the Nawabs of Avadh.
Today it is the heritage of Karbala , kep alibe by theNawabs in the various Rozas at Bada Imambada , Chota Imam bada, Kazmain.
The Nawabs lit a candle that is incandescent for all time.
Azadri cannot will not die.
The Nawabs of Avadh gave up their kingdoms to keep Azadrari alive.
Shia Gulabis, Shia Wahabbis, post modern Nakkanis or any vested interest anti Shia, cannot uproot the cry of Ya Hussain .
Man dies , generations die over the corpses of the dead rises anothr generation, beating his chest, cutting his forehead scourging, keeping the apsidistra of shiasm on the window sill alive… for all to see …Kulu Yomin Ashura .
Everyday is Ashura.

Shah Ast Hussain

shah ast hussain..

These are pictures shot at the Juloos of 18 taboots at Imambada Meeran Saab..The smoke is the incense, it adds the surrealistic spirtualism to shiasm ..a single word that defies time and space outliving generation after generation bound to like a banyan tree of faith in Ahle Bait…silence seamlessly reverbrating humanity…Ya Hussain.

This was shot through the viewfinder of my human soul.. verily this is wordless shia poetry…
the taboot or coffin of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

The Shia Crescent

kamzani

kamazani

I did not see him cutting his forehead with a sword, I shot him after his swordplay, I took a few pictures , but these two stand out.All these pictures are of the 11 th Moharam Juloos at Dargah Hazrat Abbas in Lucknow.
I scourged my back too , taking somebody elses flagellating blades , just for a few minutes.
The problem I face is that I too get carried away, but than I take a few steps back as my intention is to shoot pictures to share with all of you.
My wife keeps telling me not to do heavy duty matam in a different city, as she feels I travel by train thinks can get worse , like the wound on my hand during Delhi Chehlum, that has given me one hell of a time.
I am actually never sure where I will be during Ashura next, I avoid Mumbai, as I want different backgrounds, different faces , that can only happen if I go to another city.
I have not shot the Moharam in Chennai or Bangalore.
I spoke to the guys in Chennai, they are reciprocative of my wishes to see and shoot the Azadari of Madras, under the auspices of a group called Sabisons.
I also was keen to go to Kargil , but I move about barefeet, so Kargil was out.
Perhaps Srinagar who knows where Moulah will take me this year.
Everyday is Ahura every town a Karbala…

From Wikipedia

Shī‘a Islam, also Shi‘ite Islam or Shi‘ism (Arabic شيعة šīʿa), is the second largest denomination of the Islamic faith after Sunni Islam. Shias adhere to the teachings of Muhammad and the religious guidance of his family (who are referred to as the Ahl al-Bayt) or his descendents known as Shi’a Imams. Muhammad’s bloodline continues only through his daughter Fatima Zahra and cousin Ali which alongside the prophet’s grandsons are the Ahl al-Bayt. Thus, Shi’as consider Muhammad’s descendents as the true source of guidance while considering the first three ruling Sunni caliphs a historic occurrence and not something attached to faith. The singular/adjective form is šīʿī (شيعي.) and refers to a follower of the faction of Imam Ali according to the Shia ideology.

Shia Islam, like Sunni Islam, has at times been divided into many branches; however, only three of these currently have a significant number of followers. The best known and the one with most adherents is the Twelvers (اثنا عشرية iṯnāʿašariyya) which have a large majority in Iran and Iraq; the others are Ismaili, Sevener, Alawite and Zaidiyyah. Many Druze consider themselves Shias, although their practices differ significantly. The Sufi orders among the Shias are the Alevi, Bektashi, Kubrawiya, Noorbakhshi, Oveyssi, Qizilbashi, Hamadani and Fatimid orders and denominations. Twenty percent of Turkey’s population is Alevi while Lebanon and Syria have a large presence of Druze and Alawites.
Shia” is the short form of the historic phrase šīʿat ʿAlī (شيعة علي), meaning “the followers of Ali” or “the faction of Ali”. Both Shia and Sunni sources trace the term to the years preceding the death of Muhammad; see Shia etymology.

The word “Shia” means “followers; members of party”. It can be interpreted in a wider sense than simply “followers of Ali”: it signifies that they claim that the Shia Muslims are the followers and believers of (Allah) the Almighty Creator of existence, His Prophets (Guides to Heaven), His Messages and the Ahlul Bayt (The Family of the House of Prophet Mohammad) and the prophet’s descendents which are the shi’a Imams Fathered by Ali.

Shia Muslims believe that the descendents from Muhammad through his daughter Fatima Zahra and his son-in-law Ali (the Imams) were the best source of knowledge about the Qur’an and Islam, the most trusted carriers and protectors of Muhammad’s Sunnah (traditions), and the most worthy of emulation.

In particular, Shia Muslims recognize the succession of Ali (Muhammad’s cousin, son-in-law, the first man to accept Islam — second only to Muhammad’s wife Khadija — the male head of the Ahl al-Bayt or “people of the [Prophet’s] house”) and the father of the Prophet Muhammad’s only bloodline as opposed to that of the caliphate recognized by Sunni Muslims. Shia Muslims believe that Ali was appointed successor by Muhammad’s direct order on many occasions, and that he is therefore the rightful leader of the Muslim faith.

This difference between following either the Ahl al-Bayt (Muhammad’s family and descendents) or the Caliph Abu Bakr has shaped Shia and non-Shia views on some of the Qur’an, the Hadith (narrations from the prophet) and other areas of Islam. For instance, the collection of Hadith venerated by Shia Muslims is centered on narrations by members of the Ahl al-Bayt, while some Hadith by narrators not belonging to the Ahl al-Bayt are not included (those of Abu Huraira, for example). Ali was the third successor to Abu Bakr and, for the Shia, the first divinely sanctioned “imam,” or male descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. The seminal event in Shia history is the martyrdom in 680 CE of Ali’s son Hussein, who led an uprising against the “illegitimate” caliph (72 of Hussein’s followers were killed as well). For the Shia, Hussein came to symbolize resistance to tyranny.

Regardless of the dispute about the Caliphate, the Shia recognize the religious authority of the Shia Imams, also called Khalifa Ilahi.

By some estimates, over 15% of the world’s Muslims are Shi’a. There are an estimated 220 million Shi’a Muslims[1] (including Twelvers, Ismailis, Alevi, Zaidis) throughout the world, about three quarters of whom reside in Iran, Pakistan, India, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and Turkey. [2][3]

A large portion of the world’s Shi’a live in the Middle East. The Shia Population of the Middle East[4] constitutes a majority in Azerbaijan, Iraq, Bahrain and especially Iran, where 90% of the population is Shi’a. In Lebanon Shi’a form a plurality, and they remain as significant minorities in Afghanistan, Syria, India, Pakistan and Turkey. In Yemen, both Zaidi and Twelver Shi’a comprise close to 45% of the population. Among the smaller Persian Gulf states, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates also have significant Shi’a minorities, as does the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.

About 20% of Pakistan’s and India’s Muslim population are Shi’a, and significant communities exist on the coastal regions of West Sumatra and Aceh in Indonesia (see Tabuik). Shi’a presence is negligible elsewhere in Southeast Asia, where Muslims are predominantly Shafi’i Sunnis.

According to the Shi’a, one of the lingering problems in estimating the Shi’a population is that unless the Shi’a form a significant minority in a Muslim country, the entire population is often listed as Sunni. The reverse, however, has not held true, which may contribute to imprecise estimates of the size of each sect. For example, the 1926 rise of the House of Saud in Arabia brought official discrimination against Shia [5]. The Shia-majority areas of Al-Ahsa, Qatif and Hofuf on the Persian Gulf, and western Arabia provinces of Jazan, Asir and Hijaz, that had large Shi’a minorities, have officially been completely stripped of their religious identities. Some Shi’a claim that they endure much bigotry and other indignities from Walmen authorities daily and that Shi’a pilgrims from other countries are often singled out for harassment (see Status of religious freedom in Saudi Arabia); in Saudi Arabia they are called akkaf (عكف) which means rejecters (رافضه).

The Shia believe in the five pillars of Islam, as do Sunnis, but categorize them differently. Shia beliefs include the following:

Theology of Shia (Usūl al-Dīn)

Tawhīd (Oneness): The Oneness of God
Adalah (Justice): The Justice of God
Nubuwwah (Prophethood): God has appointed perfect and infallible prophets and messengers to teach mankind the religion (that is, a perfect system of how to live in “peace” (”submission to God”))
Imamah (Leadership): God has appointed specific leaders to lead and guide mankind — a prophet appoints a custodian of the religion before his demise
Qiyamah (The Day of Judgment): God will raise mankind for Judgment

Branches of Religion (Furū al-Dīn)

Salat — called “Namaaz” in Persian — (Prayer) – Performing the five daily prayers
Sawm — called “Roozeh” in Persian — (Fast) – fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan (Able to eat after the sun goes down)
Hajj (Pilgrimage) – performing the pilgrimage to Mecca (once in a lifetime)
Zakat (Poor-rate) – paying the poor-tax (2.5% of your wealth every year should go to the poor)
Khums (One-fifth of savings) – paying tax to the Imam (سهم اما)
Jihad (Struggle) – struggling to please the Almighty. The greater, or internal Jihad is the struggle against the evil within one’s soul in every aspect of life. The lesser, or external, Jihad is the struggle against the evil of one’s environment in every aspect of life. This is not to be mistaken with the common modern misconception that this means “Holy War”. Writing the truth (jihad bil qalam) and speaking truth in front of an oppressor are also forms of Jihad.
Amr-Bil-Ma’rūf – commanding what is good
Nahi-Anil-Munkar – forbidding what is evil
Tawalla – loving the Ahlul Bayt and their followers
Tabarra – dissociating oneself from the enemies of the Ahlul Bayt

Zuljana Victorious Zuljana

zuljana

zuljana

zuljana

I have said so much about Zuljana on the battlefield of Karbala.
He stood by hs Master.
Yes even Yazids forces stood by their Master, loyal till the end, these namaz praying, fasting Moslems, who had once uttered La He Laha Ilal Lah Mohomadun Rasool Ilalah, the Kalma the key to Islam, yet here they are with blindfolded guilty consciousness slaughtering his seed.
It amazes me, but one man amongst them changed the course of Islamic betrayal towards the Imams family , by moving away from Yazid, a commander of Yazids forces called Hur.He asked for the Imams forgiveness , fought by the side of the Imam.
He saved himself the curses of a lifetime.
But these are all thinking men, religiously adhering to Islam, Yazids foot soldiers , cavalry, infantry, camel ridden, troops , yet none can challenge the exemplary behaviour of Zuljana.
Yes that one name stands out in a human crowd.
Zujana Imam Hussains valiant Steed.
The Victory magazine people dont allow you to copy from their site, but they have something on Zuljana too.
THe Zuljana I write about is a Zuljana who belongs to everyone, a common mans Zuljana.
The Victory Magazine has a made over Designer Zuljana.
Yes better one does not copy.

Shia Wahabbis ..

alam abbas

.

This is the area outside the Dargah Hazrat Abbas, the center of gravity , of a Shia Lucknow in terms of invoking the blessings of the Lion Hearted , standard bearer brother of Hazrat Imam Hussain.Every Shia touches the Dargah Hazarat Abbas , this is an awesome place of spiritual sanctity.
I have seen people struggling in the clutches of ruthless Death, lying on the floor a thread tied to their hand , the same thread around the Alam Abbas, a kind of spirtual blood transfusion of Faith.I mean think you have everything, you have God too , but if you dont have Faith what do you have.It is not just a mans belief that need to be respected, but the intangible quality that demands respect it is Faith.
I have seen wonders of Faith.
For the Shias Hazarat Abbbas is the wonders of Faith.
A staunch believer protector of his brother , he never ever called Imam Hussain as Brother , but Moulah Akka Hussain.
This valiant warrior with the strength of Ali running in his veins, bravery was his Motherhood.
His mother was chosen as Hazrat Alis wife from a brave valiant family, after the passing away of Bibi Fatima.Abbas is immortal strength of faith .
Round his neck on the Alam Abbas lies the testimony of his favorite neice Sakina , the little pouch she had given him to collect water from the fringes of cruel Euphrates, water he could not get , they shot him down, the indomitable strength of Yazid against a single warrior Abbas Alamdar, he fough valiantly, his body pierced with several holes , mingling with the many holes in the water pouch called Mashke Sakina, yes the Mashke Sakina breathed its last , water flowing like tears , hypnotising time emotionalising a scene immemorial in the annals of Islamic history.
I have copied many a link from Shia sites about Hazrat Abbas, but this post is words spouting from the sanctity of my soul my love for Hazrat Abbas, yes this is the same Dargah where Shia hardliners stuck my pictures demanding my head for the hacked contents on my Buzznet site.
I will never visit Lucknow, a city living on Hate , fuelled by Hate, yes these are the Shia Wahhabis, who are bent on stopping Azadari for good, faceless people of our community who wear black clothes like hijabs hiding their black evil agenda, I was told about them by a Nawab the scion of the erstwhile nawab family. He was deeply hurt , sad when he talked to me on the phone.Of Doom being premediately planned by members of our community, vested agents of Yazidiyat.Yes I can only call them Shia Wahhabis.Shia Talibans.
Our enemies of Shiasm are not those who openly agitate against us, condemn our faith in Ahle Bait as heresy, politically try to marginalise us through ruling parties at the State and the Centre. For we are just 10% democracy to rule needs more than 90%Muslim votes.
Luckily Hussainiyat is our birthright , atleast I dont see Shias asking for OBC other backward caste position, we are dying because it is our kind that wants us dead, buried ,for good.

Karbala Jhuk Nahi Sakti..
Tumhare Jhukane se
Ya Hussain Ek Aisi Cheekh
Joh rakhti hai hame Zinda
Har Zamane se
Azadari E Hussain
Abbas ke Alam ke pharere
me lehrati huee
sadiyon ke satane se
shama bhujti nahi
dushman ke bhujane se

The Chant of Ya Hussain

taboot

I am working on the Camera raw format pictures of the Juloos of Zainul Abedin at the Hazrat Abbas Dargah , there are too many I am posting it all at my homesite.
I opened shop at about 6pm, asked a guy to lift the shutter , its an impossible task with the pain in my right hand, a cybernetic well wisher Girish GV had asked me to take 4 cloves of garlic in the morning, I am having that too, only the pain killer tab I take it no more.
I am learning to live with pain, constant pain , that has attached itself like a leech to my souls fleshy consciousness.
I have copied some of my Word Press posts too Bloggerspot, the earliest site that along with Buzznet helped grooming me as a Blogger, a Blogger is a person who pastes his thought as handbills on the walls ,at cybernetic street corners, someone or the other will surely read it, chuckle move away, but it is a great time pass for the writer of the blog and also for the stray reader of the Blog. The one person I respect was the Blog Goddess she would spare time to comment on the posts of new members at Buzznet, a very distinguishing thought a very charitable soul building thought , adding confidence to the kid blogger on the side walk of a new penetrating medium of expression.
She with ration Internet time like a little dove left her comment droppings on the blogs of other old timer bloggers, her caustic shit was manure for the thumb sucking blogger fool..she caused insatiable curiosity , with her comments that were almost like a kick of no return.
I just realised I am on a religious post.So I shall cut my rant.I get carried away when I talk in memoriam to the Blog Goddess. She had stopped commenting on my posts that were written in a delirious moment keeping her as the initialreader, muse of what I wrote.

Well this is the Amary or Caravan, with the coffin of Hazarat Imam Hussains replica..
In Karbala after the Imam s head was decapitated placed on a spear with the heads of the other 72 warriors, the bodies were stripped of the clothes, looted robbed, those days luckily men did not carry the kind of wealth they carry today, those days your wealth was the family you belonged to, your kinship with the head of the tribe, I believe, you were tendered respect on the basis of the contribution of your tribe to the society .
Now if you go by this simple method of my understanding of human nature, Hazrat Imam Hussain came from the House of Bani Hashim, his erstwhile grandfather the Holy Messenger of Allah. His mother the only daughter of ths erstwhile Holy Prophet.
The Holy Prophet was bought up by Abu Talib, his uncle , though the Sunni seminarians find fault with Abu Talib , the fact remains that he learnt values, many other qualities from this Uncle Abu Talib father of Hazrat Ali , husband of his daughter Bibi Fatima.
Hazrat Ali was a valiant warrior, a thinker, a teacher, so much more, never envious , but always under the spell of devotion to the Holy Prophet.I am not much of a scholar, but all this comes from within.Hazrat Ali was the choen successor to the Holy Prophet to lead the Ummah after him. This is was announced at Gahdeer.

01. LOCATION OF GHADIR-E-KHUMM
article courtesy
ezsoftech.com

map of ghadeer khumm

The map shown is the map of Arabia. Ghadir is on the way from Mecca to Madina. While returning from Mecca to Madina, after the last hajj, alongwith his companions, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) broke the journey at a lake, 3 miles away from Al-Johfa. He (S.A.W) halted at midday in a wayside tract of barren land with no shade other than that provided by a few acacia trees. A small lake is called as Ghadir in Arabic, so this place is known as Ghadir-e-Khumm. The name Ghadir is no longer in use.

02. WHAT HAPPENED AT GHADIR-E-KHUMM?

Tabarani and others have recorded the following tradition as related by Zayd ibn ‘Arqam and transmitted through sources unanimously acknowledged to be reliable. Zayd says that the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him and his posterity, delivered a sermon at Ghadir-e-Khumm under a cloth spread as a canopy on two large trees. He said:

“O my people! I am going to be recalled shortly and I must comply. I shall be interrogated and you also shall be interrogated. What will you say then?” The entire audience answered: “We shall bear witness that you did convey to us the message of Allah, and tried your best to guide us on the right path and always gave us good console. May Allah bless you with a good reward.” The Prophet proceeded: “Why do you not bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, and that Paradise is true, Hell is true, Death is true, Resurrection after death is true, that the Day of Judgment will doubtlessly come and that Allah will raise to life the dead from their graves?.” They said: “O Yes! We bear witness to all this.” Then he said: “O Allah! You also may witness.” Then he said: ‘O my people! Allah is my Mawla and I am mawla of the faithful and I have superior right on and control over their lives. And this Ali is the mawla of all those of whom I am mawla. O Allah! Love him who loves him and hate him who hates him.” He further said: “O my people! I will precede you and you also shall arrive at the pool of Kawthar, the pool wider than the distance between Basrah and San’a’, and there are on the pool as many goblets of silver as stars. When you shall reach me I shall interrogate you about your behavior towards the two in-valuable assets after my death. The major asset is the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Glorious, one end of which is in the hand of Allah, the Exalted, and the other end of which in your hands. Grasp it tightly and do not go astray and do not change or amend it. The other asset is my Progeny, who are my Ahl al-Bayt. Allah the Gracious and Omniscient has informed me that the two will not part from each other before they reach me at the pool.

03. WHEN & IN FRONT OF HOW MANY MUSLIMS?

This Ghadir-e-Khumm event happened on the 18th of Dhil-Hijjah (1410 AH), in 10 Hijra in front of nearly one hundred thousand (100,000) Muslims. While returning from the last hajj (Hajjatul-wida / farewell pilgrimage) of our Holy Prophet (S.A.W.).

04. CONTEXTS

A). QURANIC EXEGESIS (Tafsir):

O Messenger! Deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the people; (AL-MAEDA/5:67)

This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; (AL-MAEDA/5:3)

One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall, The unbelievers there is none to avert it, From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent.(AL-MAARIJ/70:1-3)

B). PROPHETIC TRADITION (Hadith):

Imam Ahmad has recorded the tradition related by Bara’ ibn ‘Azib in his Musnad, vol.4, p. 281, transmitted through two different sources. Bara’ says: “We were with the Messenger of Allah. We alighted at Ghadir-e-Khumm. Congregational prayer was in order. An area under two trees was swept and cleaned for the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him and his posterity. He offered midday prayers and he grasped the hand of ‘Ali and said: ‘Do you not know that I have superior authority over the lives of the faithful than the faithful themselves?’ ‘Yes you have,’ they replied. He again inquired: ‘Do you not know that I have superior right to the life of every believer than the believer himself?’ ‘Surely, you have,’ they answered. Then he grasped the hand of ‘Ali and said: ‘Ali is the mawla of all those of whom I am mawla. O Allah! Love him who loves him and hate him who hates him.’” Bara’ ibn ‘Azib says: “Then ‘Umar came to ‘Ali and said: ‘Congratulations to you the son of Abu Talib. You have become the mawla (master) of all the faithful men and women.’”

C). HISTORICAL REPORTS (Tarikh):

Here we will just mention one instance which took place in Kufa during the khilafah of Imam Ali (A.S.), 25 years after the Prophet’s death.

When at Ali’s insistence a large number of people gathered in the plain of Rahbah in Kufah, he addressed them saying: “I administer an oath in the name of Allah to all such Muslims as heard the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) making a proclamation on the day of Ghadir-e-Khumm, to stand up and testify what they heard him say. Only those who saw the Holy Prophet that day with their own eyes and heard the proclamation with their own ears should stand up.” Thereupon, thirty companions of the Holy Prophet(S.A.W), including twelve of those who had participated in the battle of Badr, stood up and witnessed that the Holy Prophet(S.A.W) grasped his (Ali’s) hand and said to the audience: “Do you know that I have a prior right to and superior authority over the souls (i.e., lives) of the faithful than the faithful themselves?” “O yes!” they said. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) then said: “He (Ali) is the mawla (i.e., has prior right to and superior authority over the lives) of all those of whom I am mawla. O Allah, love him who loves him (Ali) and hate him who hates him.” It is logically impossible that thirty companions might have secretly agreed to speak a unanimous lie. In addition to the thirty witnesses there were other male companions whom enmity with Ali prevented from standing up and giving their evidence as eye-witnesses, like Anas ibn Malik.

When Ali (A.S.) said to Anas: “Why do you not stand up and testify what you heard from the messenger of Allah on the day of Ghadir?” he answered, “O Amir al-Momineen! I have grown old and do not remember.” Thereupon Ali said: “May Allah mark you with a white spot (of leprosy) unconcealable with your turban, if you are intentionally withholding the truth.” And before Anas got up from his place he bore a large white spot on his face. Thereafter, Anas used to say: “I am under the curse of a righteous slave of Allah.

Also bear in mind that this incident took place 25 years after the event of Ghadir Khum, and during this period hundreds of eyewitnesses had died naturally or in the battles fought during the first two khulafah’s rule. Add to this the fact that this incident took place in Kufa which was far from the centre of the sahabas, Medina. This incident which took place in Kufa in the year 35 A.H. has itself been narrated by four sahaba and 14 tabi’un and has been recorded in most books of history and tradition.

Well back to my post , back to Karbala ,barbarism, cruelty was an indelible Arab trait, horses were made to run over the undressed bodies, this was a thought that would nauseate any sane soul, the burning of the ladies tents, looting their belongings , this is the contribution of Yazid to Islams treasury, this is his heritage that we call Hehadi Terrorism.
I wont say further Yazidiyat is alive kicking, as it once did on the burning sands of Karbala.
I others like me distance our selves from this aspect of Islam.
It never existed in Islam, but it was taken by vested interests for political gains, power , achievement.. what is the use of this power if it comes of no use in the next world.
This reminder each year , commemorating the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain , his kith and kin, slaughtered, butchered , is celebrated as a mourning period called Moharam.
The passion plays in certain countries, the matam majlis, the sabils,, the tazias, the juloos, the house Imambadas is called Azadari E Hussain.
This grief is caled Ghame E Hussain.
This motivation is called Maksade Hussain.
The chant that rises in one country reverberating in other cities and other countries on Ashura day, a chant bleeding blood sweat and tears is called :
Ya Hussain
Ya Hussain
