After the Amary procession the Hallauri Shias congregate at the Hallauri Imambada to begin the finale to Athvi..
The Alvida Matam, the farewell Matam in memory of Imam Hussain , who was the center of everything 2 months eight days of Moharam.

In a short time after this Moharam officially comes to an end, the House Imambada will have the ornamentations removed, the flowers etc..

The black clothes will give way to red, its back to movies switching on the telivision sets, Shias consider Music to be haram, so there will be Shairi by noted poets on the day of Navi or Eid E Zehra.

In Mumbai the Navi celebrations are very low key… understandably.

I did not have a good position and had to manage with whatever pictures I got…

The Hallauris belong to a town called Hallaur in Uttar Pradesh, they are predominantly devout Shias.
I am told even the Hindus in Hallaur wear black clothes to show solidarity with their Shia Muslim brothers and take part in the mourning of Hussain..

If you see the Hallauris , they are absolutely good looking race , humble down to earth , talented eyond their human resources.
They are creativity personified.
Their hand matam is unbeatable , and very well known all over India..

They are a unique community and most of them have the same resemblance because they marry within their community…

I have a great respect for the Hallauris.

Zamanat Abbas Rizvi

Zamanat Abbas Rizvi lost his legs on Ashura day, he was travelling by train after doing a hardcore kama matam, and he fell off at Kurla station , the train taking both his legs away, 5 burkha clad women admited him to a mumnicipal hospital , paid his expenses and disappeared in thin air..
This was told to me by my friend Cassim Hallauri.

I am very fond of shooting Zuljana , at Moharam time.
He as an animal led from the front and stood by his Master.
This cannot be said of the Yazidi forces supposedly Muslims who were baying for the blood of the Grandson of the Holy Prophet.

The barbarism of Yazidi Islam had no place for human sentiments at all.
The enemy they chose was a Muslim .
They treated him like a Kaffir , and even a common criminal does not deserve the punishment that was meted out to the Imam of Truth and Peace.

The Mumbai Police

I always include the Mumbai Police in my pictures , because of their presence , law and order is maintained , as there are many vested elements , mischief makers who love to cause trouble , during religious processions to hurt human sentiments ….
All this is kept under check and among the processionists are policemen dressed in civil clothes.
Police now take video recording of events.
Mumbai Police does a tremendous job and on some days they have more than 4 processions of different faiths - but they do their job to the satisfaction of the people …
