I bring to an end the series of 190 pictures at my Flickr photostream, of the Athvi of Govandi Mumbai hosted by the Hallauris of Mumbai..
A huge effort , kids carrying the Taboots 72 of them along with the men..from Hallauri Imambara to Jaffriya school, including Matam on the roads by various Anjumans.

Next I post a continuation called the Amary procession and the final or Akhri Salam to the Imams farewell by the Hallauris - the Hallauri hand matam at Flickr.

My pictures might look repetetive but I am posting this as a tributr to the Hallauris who made this possible, this is about 175 or more pictures at my Flick photostream, its 3 am and I am trying to complete this event , in order to post pictures of Athvi day and the Amary procession also at Govandi.
I shot about 450pictures.

These events both of them are gargantuan by any day and the finale of the unique Hallauri hand matam, I shot all this , and the taboots staitoned at Jaffery school, I am too tired to cross blog this to my other sites.

Yes I missed Athvi in Lucknow , I missed Marziya Shakir who is at Kazmain watching the proceedings from her maternal grandparents house for the first time..

Alvida means farewell, we Shias bid the Imam goodbye, he was amongst us for 2 months eight days..

The Hallauris of Mumbai live in clusters at Govandi, though Hallauris live in other areas like Mira Road , Mumbra Bandra Kurla and other parts of Mumbai..

For the Hallauris the three days are very important when Moharam comes to and end, before Athvi, on 6 Rabilawwal they have an all night Shabbedari of their Hallauri Anjuman - Anjuman e Hyderi Govandi.
7 Rabilawwal was the procession of the 72 Taboot , this was delayed considerably as the Sunni Waz was going on , so it was only after the Waz got over that the Shia 72 Taboot procession could move…
This happened at 9.30 pm, I was in a bad shape due to my diabetic condition so I took leave of Cassim Hallauri reached Bandra at 11.45pm..

I posted pictures from home of this Juloos till 1.30 am This is a 1Gb card.

Today is 8 Rabilawwal or Athvi the Amari procession at Govandi another Hallauri organised event..

I must mention the Hallauris are fiercely independent , and all these events are done by donations from the migrant Hallauri community, ever house chips in for Moulah Akka Hussain, the volunteers of Anjuman e Hyderi Hallaur move with their receipt books to make Athvi in Mumbai at Govandi a peaceful memorable event..

I sincerely miss Athvi in Lucknow, and for those of you in other parts of India, I request you to visit Lucknow,, see the Chup Tazia procession from Nakhas to Kazmain.. hear the cries , the soundlessness and do hear late Nasir Jahans ..Ghabrayegi Zainab..and dont be surprised among the burkha clad women there might be Bibi Zainab, this is one day in her Life that she is in Lucknow bidding farewell to the greatest lovers of Ahle Bayt , whatever my personal opinion about Lucknow, I hold no ill will, but Athvi in Lucknow ,is about the Imam back bent moving back acoss the frontiers of Peace to war ridden Iraq and to Karbala , and a little three year old girl teary faced , looking back over her shoulders , for Uncle Abbas sleeps at his Dargahin Lucknow clinging to the last vestige of his honor a promise he could not keep The Masjhke Sakina ..

Dar hai Kulsum ke chhehre pey na gir jaye nazar
Nouke Nehza pe sambhalata nahi Abbas ka Sar

This Pakistani Noha is what Shiasm is all about.

Shiasm is a 1400 year old cry a protest against Yazidiyat .
Shiasm is not just a religiosity, Shiasm is not a sect , Shiasm, Allah Ho Akbar is divine Faith in Humanity..
A faith that leads us to the door of global peace though the sacrifice of Hussain..
Those who can cry as I am crying while I write this , will only know the Cry in a Shias heart and his Soul.. a piercing cry in the wilderness of a Black Chapter in Yazidi Islam, a chapter soaked in blood and which blooms each Moharam as a wail Ya Hussain..
Yes this Hussainiyat in a nutshell…

And you dont necessarily need to be a Shia to understand Hussain …if you understand Humanity, you are as close to Hussain as Hussain can be close to you…

The Hallauris from Mumbai..
The Hallauris are natives of Hallaur in Uttar Pradesh, a race that takes its origins from two brothers who had come from Arabia.
Hence you will find them fair complexioned, sharp poetic features, and colored eyes.
A very beautiful race men women and children, as earlier they married within their own kind, the resemblance is very close, and they are closely inter-related.

I have never been to Hallaur my Hallauri connection is my dear friend Cassim Hallauri, and come to think of it I have not even visited Cassims house, Cassim I met for the first time at Agnes Perreiras house at Veronic Street Waroda Road , where I was a a tenant in my struggling days and I first thought he was a Mack, meaning Christian.. this was about 10 years ago.
Cassim is a devout Shia , has gone through hell , both with his deteriorating health due to to severe pancreatic problems , but come what may he gives life to the Sabil next to Trios at Chicnchpokli road , Trios has now given way to Matriz radymade showroom..

Cassims brother too has a pancreatic ailment , his father was a well known poet who died prematurely, and Cassim is a brilliant carpenter , does interiors creatively..

Most of the Hallauris are in the interior decoration trade and Hallauris are all born poets..If you see a Hallauri doing hand matam, you will know the intensity of his Shia faith, I was a whisker away from having a Hallauri daughter in law for my remaining son, but it did not happen.

Hallauris are a unique Shia race, a community filled with piety and believers of Ahle Bayt..At Govandi there are no less than 14 Anjumans .

The Hallauri hand matam is a class by itself I reiterate nobody can do the hand matam like the Hallauris , every stroke opening up the chest without razor blades.I shall shoot this today at their Hallauri Imambara, choreography of hands and rythmic silence within reverbrating sounds of Ya Hussain , Ya Hussain..

Cassim Hallauri was the one who introduced me to the Iranian Sword Matam, yesterday he took me to the 72t aboot procession at Govandi.
The Athvi Amary procession has camels , Zuljana , Taboots but no blood, unlike the Athvi at Kazmain Lucknow where there will be much bloodshed and my dear friend Habib Nasser from Mumbai will be shooting this..
I have forefeited my birthright to Lucknow..
I think Mumbai is a Shia Safe haven for me away from cancerous Shia Wahabbis and Shia Talibans that have infested Shiasm and are dead against Azadari of Imam Hussain.

I digress so back to Hallauris, Mohsin Hallauri, is a great Matamdar, though he had promised his mother he would not cut his forehead at Rehamatabad Shia cemetery , he called her seeking her blessings and her permission to cut his head again , he did quite fiercely..
Than Syed the videographer from Pathanwadi , his wife is a Hallauri and his kids are more Hallauri tham Mumbaikars.. even his kids are upcoming videographers..
Syed runs a Shia channel..
I met Khusthar once a Hallauri poet whose rendition of Lut Gaya Ghar kis Tara Batlayegi Zainab,,has been my favorite Noha and I cant even get the CD ..
Than I know Khurshid Hallauri who is a dear friend of my father in law Abbas Qasim Qazilbash of Diamond Cassettes Nakhas Lucknow.

I guess my affinity to the Hallauris maybe due to the fact that my late maternal grandfather Daroga Nabban Saab of Patal Nala was a poet from the family of poet Mir Anis…I am a poet of sorts..pedestrian photographer cum poet..

So I go to shoot the Amari and show you the Athvi through the eyes of the Hallauris of Mumbai..
