Chehlum Rehmatabad Finale

I complete posting 20000 pictures at Flickr, since 10 th June 2007 , this includes a few that were added via Yahoo pictures and Yahoo mail.
This is the largest number of my pictures on a particular site.
My parent site www.photographerno1.com

has about 8000 files but I do not post here due to technical reasons.
blog stats of my parent site since dec 2005

8279 files in 58 albums and 1 categories with 0 comments viewed 761268 times

At Word Press I have over 5000 pictures.
I have discontinued posting at Blogspot , due to Word Verification.. this is my protest against a tool that is a humiliation to the creativity of a photo blogger., a total hinderance , and Word Press and Flickr are the best.
Though Flickr too does not have Comment Moderation , so one hopes they introduce this and save the crude comments that can be deleted before they are published.
Word Press continues to gain respect , and the Whizz Kids at Word Press always bring in new features, new innovations unlike the neanderthal Blogspot that shall cave in with the weight of its regressive repertoire…and Blogspot attitude of psychotic conservatism.
I cross blog to Word Press from Flickr .
Even Ipernity is a fantastic global community, and its unfortunate one cannot cross blog to Ipernity from Flickr.
I have three sites on Word Press.
photographerno1.wordpress.com
www.firozeshakir.com
my poetry site presented to me by my son Asif Shakir
And the Shia site
shah-ast-hussain.com

I have a domain name
hijda -eunuch .com but have to yet give it form on cyberspace , this is my tribute to the transgenders of India and the little I can do for the neglected hijda community as a human being.

I have posted over 250 pictures of the Shia Chehlum at Rehmatabad Shia cemetery on my Flickr photostream.

Spiritual Serendipity of a Shia Soul

I wish I could have had a vantage position, as my pictures were shot without any idea of what I was shooting, the focussing was haywire, I was shooting at center weighted mode, normally I shot average.
The flash was my only aid SB 800.
But the Nikon D 80 was a faster camera than Nikon D70 the digital disaster.I had the Canon G 9 but it was impossible to use two cameras here, I fell down several times, pushed kicked, but I managed to shoot, and get some pictures.

Chehlum Rehmatabad, is the most enlightening moment of the pain of the Shia community, a pain that is termed Ghame Hussain.
Chehlum is the 40th day of the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
In Hyderabad to the Chehlum celebration is unique, the Hyderabadis cut their heads as though they cut water melons..
And the Huderabadi child is iniated into Kama Matam since birth, every Shia Hyderabadi has marks of his Faith.
The Hyderabadis love blade matam, and their chests will always bear the marks.
The Mumbaikar are intense matamdars, exponents of sword matam, kama matam, and the Mumbai hockey shaped Zanjir, and the curves ZAnjir is famous for the effect of its punishing nature. The Mumbai Zanjir none like it anywhere in India. All made by a guy who sits near the Bharat Restaurant off Null Bazar close to Chor Bazar..
This year I did not scourge , as my right hand and my right shoulder are totally in pain, the frozen shoulder is stiff and rotating the blades would be sheer impossible.
I am a diabetic insulin dependent but I cut my forehead in Ashura and in Chehlum.

Chehlum Rehmatabad-Bleeding Tears

It was tough shooting this sequence of Chehlum, I was being pushed from one end to the other end, and the crowds were enormous in such cramped corners , basically it is the passage paths leading to the graveyards, all the paths were clustered with the matamdars, not an inch available.
As the Zuljana enters the path of the matamdars the frenzy of the scourgings and the kama slashes increases ,but not surprising there were little kids to bought into this adult arena of pain.
Sameers kids, Danny Alis kids, Syed kids were all here , and these are the Pathanwadi Shia battalion. There are friends like Halu from Bandra who come here to assist and help the bleeding matamdars. The most intrepid was Yusuf of Mehdi Channel, who has no place on his head for the slashes of the Kama , and there is no stopping him.
He is there in the picture diaagonally to my right..

Chehlum Rehmatabad-Spiritual War Zone

As the Maulana cuts his forehead the crowds get up, from a sitting position, and every body starts scourging and cutting their heads simultaneously, its a split second emotional outburst, I break through the cordon to shoot, as from where I was sitting it is next to impossible, someone or the other is blocking your view..
If you shoot this chaos you can shoot anything in the world, blades are flying , swords are slashing heads and back, one wrong move and you are headed to Habib Hospital, or the ambulance outside.
I could not shoot Habib Nasser and Baqars scourging , they both had to be rushed to get stitches.
