Yazidiyat ke thekedar apne billon me
Kan mein ruee dalkar kambhal mein chip jayenge
Kyon ki aaj Shia eide e zehra manayenge
Lal jhande hussainiyat ke gharon se lehrayenge
Hazrat imam hussain ke katilon par lanat bhijwayenge
Ek maan ko apna haq dilayenge
3  1/2  villian ka  jashan maneyenge
Enke putle ghar ghar mein jalayenge
Gul gule pakakar sare mohalle mein batwaenge
Bar umar lanat kehte hue gali gali mein chilayenge
Aaj kazmain mein Syed Pidwi nazar aeyenge
Janwaron ki boli mein umar ababukar usman
Ke pyari ada mein kisse sunayenge
Aaj bacche bhi wah wah lagayenge
Jab janab pidvi sahib apne hathon ka action dikhayenge
Marne marane wale bhi shamil hojayenge
Janab showzab designer sherwani mein putla jalayenge
Bacche budhe dhele lagaayenge
Phir chote chote fire engine apna karishma dikhaenge
Mehfilen jamengi aaj tukbandi karnewale bhi
Shayar banjayenge .

I AM BACK
This is a scene in Kolkatta during Moharram,and I had gone there for the first time..I did not know any one but as I entered the fray I found a lot of people knew me and I too scourged myself and kolkatta is a very intense place.. the guys do chest matam and use razor blades..I knew guys who used doctors scalpel..I have never done this on my chest.. never had the urge..I beat my chest and chant Ya Hussain.. but most of the time I am shooting..and I have met some great guys who have held on to my camera bag while I cut myself,,with my zanjeer.

This guy was one of the tallest maatamdars I met and I shot quite a few pictures and Kolkatta is a very bonding place for the small closely knit shia community..safdarbhai munna bhai and and their family really took me around including safdars son.saif..

razor blade matam
This guy was so intense with his intensity he would make great villain in a Bolly wood film..I never got talk to him as I am on the move and I stayed in a seedy hotel near Canning street.
But Moharam gives me a chance to travel for three days of Moharram,, most of the Maulanas who come from Mumbai and Lucknow know me so this helps in getting the necessary help/
of shooting various events that I am guided by them to go and shoot..
In Kolkatta I was lucky to meet the young savvy Maulana Shozab Jarvalli , who has has been a pillar of support , even my Shaeede Saalis trip was facilitated by him..
He is the most easy going person has to be seen during Eid E Zehra which he celebrates with a fabulous mehfil and mushaira.

Karte Hain Matam Haram Abbas Ka
This is another chant for the brave brother of imam hussain called hazrat abbas alamdar… he was very fiery with brave qualities of his father hazrat ali the cousin of the holy prophet  his son in law married to bibi fatima the prophets only daughter.

moharram in kolkatta
This was my favorite and there are times while shooting pictures like this I am constantly crying and there are times I just want to throw my camera bag snatch one of thes guys zanjeer and slash myself I hit like a crazy man.. go in a trance not knowing anything and have to be controlled by 6 or 7 people when they snatch the zanjeer from me thats why I try to befriend someone who will take care of my camera bag,, return it back to me.. what the sufis rafaees do is chicken shit compared to this,,,this is real.. no tricks no nothing a 1400yrs old pain..of the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

the mannat..
mannat is a vow taken before the child is born  safe that the parents will perform the kama on his forehead.. or a hit of the blades on his back.. folks may not agree with this custom..but it exists all the same and in hyderabad it flourishes.. i have never given my pictures to the indian press…nor app nor reuters..
never needed to..  dont sell my pictures this is my mannat or vow for the greater good of showing  my world through the window of my blog.. buzznet  if i was a bit younger  if i did get a kid i would have called him.. buzzz ..pronounce it buss whick in urdu means enough.

zanjeer on child
i could not get the shot of the zanjeer but it is a soft hit on the childs back,, it is the first time i have seen it.

This is a series of Ashura I shot a few years back, the small Shia community really puts in all, their intensity and love of Imam Hussain , their devotion their collective effort gives it a real traditional nawabi feel..The Kolkatta Shias are amazing , highly hospitable , it is just one word of a thought Ghame Hussain.

Their Zanjir matam, blade matam is to be seen to be believed.

Mehmoodabad
This is a royal estate of the erstwhile Raja of Mehmoodabad, who is I am given to believe stays most of the time in England..
but comes down to Mehmoodabad for Moharram celebrations,,  is devout erudite,, blue blood shia,
because of the sombreness of Moharram I spoke a few words.
it was my first trip to Memoodabad Sitapur district very close to Lucknow the capital ofUttar Pradesh India..this is a series,,, of the Athvi celebrations in old feudal style , traditional old time charm.
